NASA released a free e-book for sky watchers interested in learning more about taking astrophotos with a smartphone. Prepared by Dr. Sten Odenwald of NASA’s Goddard Spaceflight Center, this e-book includes an introduction to basic astrophotography technique and equipment. It also makes specific recommendations for smartphone camera settings and other techniques to help capture images of the Moon, Sun, planets, aurorae and noctilucent clouds, meteors and comets, and deep-sky objects. The e-book is suitable for beginners, but it also includes background information and theory related to digital cameras and astrophotography useful for intermediate and advanced imagers wanting to get into smartphone astrophotography. The book includes 189 pages and 185 illustrations and is available for immediate download in PDF format.
